EverydayNerd loves TeamViewer! Use it all the time to remotely support computers (well actually the users of the said computers…)

Anyway, TeamViewer now works on Linux! The software not only allows remote controlling, but is also fully functional as a host as well – working just like the Windows/Mac versions.

Great job from TeamViewer!

Google has a preview release of Picasa 2.7 for Linux. The previous version launched last year didn’t include the features from Picasa 2.5+ for Windows (like the Picasa Web integration), so this is a good opportunity to add these features to Linux. Here’s what is new in Picasa 2.7 for Linux:

Upload to Picasa Web Albums – Use the new "Web Album" button to post your best photos online to share with friends and family.

Save edits to disk – Save edits, undo saves, and revert to the original file with ease. We’ve got batch saving too! Picasa will even match the jpeg quality of the original. Right-click on your saved files to try the new "locate original" feature.

Folder hierarchy views – Browse through folders Explorer-style. Use the button at the top of your Albums List to try them out.

Improvements to Import – Import into an existing folder. (…) We’ve made importing photos from your camera faster too.

Better RAW support – Now you can work with RAW files from the Canon 30D, the Nikon D200, Adobe DNG files, and more.

Many other enhancements – Larger thumbnails, better caption editing, ability to configure the row of buttons, special "Starred Photos" album, search by ISO and focal length.

The release still doesn’t support videos, full-screen slideshows and it’s still using WINE.
More about Picasa for Linux at Google Groups.

The latest from the one of the best Linux distro’s available has been released this morning. All the mirrors are slow (Lots of people dl the iso) but the torrents are much faster.

Go get it here: Fedora

Update: LifeHacker has a good blurb about Fedora Core 8:

I told you, about Google working on releasing more Linux apps. Well, , Google opened Google Linux Software Repositories.

From their site:

Overview

Google’s Linux software repositories make it easier to download and stay up-to-date with current releases of Google Linux applications.

Thank you Google! They currently support Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, Mandriva, Suse, and Redhat Linux Distro’s.

Why is this great? Ease of software installation and updates. Simply add the repository to your Linux box, type a single command, and the product is installed. Also, when you run your update program, any Google product will be updated automatically – no more manual upgrades!

I tinker with Linux quite a bit. One thing that bugged me though is how slow some applications – like Firefox – loaded. Problem solved with Preloader!

sudo apt-get install Preload

.csharpcode, .csharpcode pre
{
font-size: small;
color: black;
font-family: consolas, “Courier New”, courier, monospace;
background-color: #ffffff;
/*white-space: pre;*/
}
.csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; }
.csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; }
.csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; }
.csharpcode .str { color: #006080; }
.csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; }
.csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; }
.csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; }
.csharpcode .html { color: #800000; }
.csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; }
.csharpcode .alt
{
background-color: #f4f4f4;
width: 100%;
margin: 0em;
}
.csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; }

This runs in the background, and preloads applications that you use most! I’m using with Ubuntu 7.04, but should work with most any distro. Project page here: SourceForge
